Partner Testimonials

"I am a playwright, novelist, and poet. I haven’t always been this successful in life. I had a challenging childhood, and when I was 25 years old, I found myself in prison serving a life sentence. Authors Inside motivates me to transform my life, move toward positive, healthier life choices, and realize my full potential as a contributing member of our writer’s community at California Men’s Colony and beyond."

Why it Matters

Within five years of release, over 70% of formerly incarcerated individuals in the U.S. are rearrested – roughly 7 in 10 people.*

Research and practice show that early intervention, emotional regulation, and accountability-centered programming are key factors in reducing recidivism.

Authors Inside addresses these needs by providing safe, structured opportunities for justice-impacted individuals to process experiences, develop insight, and envision new paths forward.

By strengthening protective factors and reducing risk factors, Authors Inside contributes to:

  • Crime prevention

  • Reduced likelihood of re-offending

  • Improved youth and family well-being

  • Safer, more connected communities
